What matters now?

As you start the New Year, how are you going on your resolution to read more from the scribes and luminaries of management best practices? Not so good huh? Well, I’m not here to prescribe any magic pill, or ask to shell out more on your hard earned cash on yet another “this will change the world by making you a better manager” book. I can, however, highly recommend one source of darned good information anyone can benefit from perusing….and it’s free.

Take a look at ‘what matters now’, an e-book prepared by Seth Godin. It’s packed with over 50 one-page gems covering everything from vision and strategy, to dignity and generosity. Sure, it’s a great read, but what really impresses about the material isn’t just the clarity of information and practical guidance. No, it’s the sense of warmth and ‘glass half full’ attitude extolled by many of the writers and contributors.

What matters now may not make you a better manager, or help you land that great job, but it will help you think about the small positive things that can make a big difference – each and every day.

Zapeteo

Living in a land far-far-away, Zapeteo writes about anything and everything related to the management and mentoring of really talented people. As such, he frowns on wooden phrases like ‘human capital management’ and ‘performance-based culture’. Instead preferring to discuss real issues, involving real people, and especially what can help them build fruitful and rewarding careers.
